   I can never decide if Louis’s saliva remarks are just for fun or meant to unsettle Dizzy and steal the show. Either way, the music is great.

     How ’bout all of the above — “fun” and “to unsettle Dizzy” and to “steal the show”?

     This is the sort of thing that L could do with D (good-naturedly and without, I’m sure, causing D to miss a beat), but that I couldn’t imagine D doing with L (given L’s status as a respected — even revered — elder, etc.).
