Something you like a lot, something you can’t stand: the difference between them isn’t always that great. Take this track, for instance. If, say, the musical backdrop were a bit sweeter, or the lyrics weren’t quite as spare, or the voice sounded a little less haggard, I’d probably hate it.

wasn’t even aware that you knew sylvian. this sounds to me like bowie by way of chet baker. he had some interesting collaborations with both robert fripp and ryuichi sakamoto. before that, he was in a duran duran-era band named japan, which i found unlistenable. thanks for reminding me of him.
Yeah, the Chet Baker reference (which I hadn’t thought of) seems spot-on.
